Who We Are

As part of the largest mental health and addiction facility in Canada, the Office of Transformative Global Health aims to jointly develop, implement, and sustain collaborative programs for health professionals and allied professionals in Latin America and the Caribbean, Asia and Africa, with a primary focus on capacity building, and health promotion education and training programs.

CA_CBT-English_Francophone_Page_01The OTGH has long-standing experience working in Haiti and with Haitian immigrants in Canada. In 2008, the OTGH was awarded a grant from Citizenship and Immigration Canada to develop easy-to-follow, culturally adapted cognitive-behavioural therapy (CA-CBT) guidelines for working with clients of Latin American origin as well as those of African Caribbean origin (English and French speaking). A series of photonovellas on mental health problems were also created. Click here for the photonovella on depression.

Building on this effort, the OTGH team is currently working on a Grand Challenges Canada grant in the Port-au-Prince area to revise the CA-CBT manual for Haitians living in Haiti and to improve access to mental health care at the community level by training spiritual leaders as mental health care practitioners of an evidence-based treatment. Learn more about the context of the project here.
